Using Timber

Pages & posts

Pages are for things that don't change often (About, Pricing, Terms). Posts are your blog, with dates, categories and an RSS feed. Both live under the Site group in the admin.

Posts#

Each post has a title, slug, category, excerpt, cover image, body and SEO fields.

  • Status: Draft (only you can see it) or Published.
  • Scheduling: set a date in the future and it stays hidden until then — no cron needed.
  • Blog index: /blog lists posts with a "load more" button. Posts also appear in the RSS feed at /feed.xml and the sitemap.
  • Previews: the preview panel shows the saved page at desktop, tablet and phone sizes, with adjustable dimensions.

Pages#

Pages add:

  • Nesting one level deep (legal/terms).
  • Folders (Live / WIP / Archive by default) to organise the list — they never change URLs.
  • Template options: hide the header or footer, or pick another header/footer block for just this page.
  • Theme sections: append sections from your theme (like a closing call to action) below the page body.
  • Set as homepage: make any published page the front page at /.

Four editors#

Choose per page (and set your favourite in Admin Tools → Code Editor):

EditorBest for
SimpleWriting. A clean rich-text editor with headings, lists, links, images, quotes and an HTML toggle
HTMLHand-edited HTML that should stay exactly as written
CoderFull control: HTML + CSS + JS in a Monaco code editor (the editor behind VS Code), with Emmet, linting and themes
BuilderLanding pages from a stack of reorderable HTML blocks — start from templates (Hero, Text, Image + text, Cards, Call to action) or your own saved Blocks

Coder and Builder pages can use the theme's header and footer, or a blank canvas where your HTML is the whole document.

Shortcodes you can use in content#

ShortcodeResult
[form id="contact"]Embeds a form
[menu id="footer" style="stack"]Embeds a menu
[your-block-tag title="Hi"]…[/your-block-tag]Runs a Block snippet

Good to know#

  • Slugs can't collide with Timber's own routes (blog, padmin, feed.xml…) or with a form's path; Timber adds -2 if needed.
  • Rich content is trusted admin HTML — administrators (and editors, in post bodies) can publish raw HTML and scripts. See Security model.
