Using Timber
Timber sends email for form notifications, autoresponders and replies. Configure it in Emails.
Pick how to send#
| Transport | When to use it |
|---|---|
**PHP mail()** | Works on many hosts with zero setup. Deliverability varies |
| Google Mail | Your Gmail or Workspace address plus an app password |
| Brevo | A transactional email API (add your key under Integrations) |
| Custom SMTP | Any provider: host, port, SSL/STARTTLS, login |
Passwords and API keys are stored in data/secrets.json (never shown again, only "saved ••••1234") and are excluded from import/export.
Sender and design#
- From name / email, reply-to, and the admin address that receives notifications.
- A branded template: logo, accent colour, background and footer. (Email clients can't show SVG logos, so a PNG/JPG is used; with none, your site name is printed as text.)
- A reply signature added to replies you send from the inbox.
Test it#
Press Send a test, then read the sent log — the last 150 sends with transport, trigger, result and the exact HTML. Failures store the provider's error message.
Deliverability checklist#
- Send from an address on your own domain and make sure SPF/DKIM are set up with your provider.
- With Gmail, use the Gmail address or a verified alias as the from address.
- If mail doesn't arrive, check the sent log first — it tells you whether Timber handed it off successfully.
