Using Timber

Media & files

Media library#

Media is a view of the real files in assets/ and uploads/, grouped by folder — there's no separate media database to get out of sync.

  • Upload by drag-and-drop into a folder; new uploads go to uploads/YYYY/MM/.
  • Alt text per image (used automatically where the image appears).
  • Picker: the same chooser appears everywhere you pick an image — pages, posts, branding, theme fields.
  • Delete files you no longer need; Timber won't delete anything outside assets/ and uploads/.

Upload rules#

  • Allowed types are an allow-list (images, video, audio, PDF, a few document types, 3D .glb).
  • Each file's content must match its extension (checked with fileinfo).
  • SVGs containing scripts are rejected. Names are slugified and never overwrite.
  • Max 50 MB per file (and your server's PHP limits apply).
  • uploads/ can't execute code.

File Manager#

Browse every file on the site read-only, and **edit media, HTML, CSS, JS and text inside assets/ and uploads/** — create, rename, upload, delete, even edit a theme's theme.css right in the browser. PHP files can never be created or changed from here.

Code editor#

CSS, JS, HTML and JSON fields use Monaco, the editor behind VS Code, with syntax highlighting, Emmet, linting, a theme picker, tab size, word wrap and format-on-save (Admin Tools → Code Editor). Monaco loads on demand from a CDN, only when you open an editor — the one time Timber's admin makes a third-party request.
